We use FSC® certified (FSC-C156318) Dunlop latex in our mattresses. Our GOLS-certified organic latex (CU 863637) is sourced from co-owned farmer's societies and processing facilities in India and Guatemala, operating under the USDA's National Organic Program. Our Dunlop latex is made with 95% certified organic latex, the highest standard. It is processed in GOLS-certified organic facilities. Our Standard Firm Mattress uses two layers of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex - 2 inches in the comfort layer (D65 / 14-19 ILD, soft) and a 1-inch layer (D65) in the base. On the Avocado Pillow-Top Mattress, we use three layers of Dunlop organic latex - 2 inches in the pillow-top layer (D65), plus 2 inches in the comfort layer (D65), and 1 inch (D65) in the base. On the Avocado Plush Box-Top Mattress, we use 3 inches of ultra-soft FSC® certified Pure Talalay latex (not GOLS-certified) over 3 inches of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex. No chemical adhesives are used to bind the layers since our mattress is needle-tufted by hand. Our Dunlop and Talalay latex is eco-INSTITUT® label certified (Dunlop 119-34212-001, Talalay 0120-34225-001), a certification for products fulfilling the strictest requirements on pollutants and emissions following the latest state-of-the-art international research and science, and OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 (24.HUS.86422).

It s breathable - both warm and cool when you need it. Its natural crimp gives it bounce, body, and soft support characteristics. It s also non-allergenic (ideal for those who suffer allergies to feather and down or synthetic bedding products) and a renewable resource. No additives or synthetics are added to the wool. At Avocado, we add a layer of pure, naturally crimped GOTS-certified organic wool (CU 863637) (1 ounce per square foot) under the organic certified cotton ticking in every mattress. For a luxurious and premium finish, we use GOTS-certified organic cotton (CU863637) in a soft, natural color blended with 3% elastane for functional stretch and enhanced durability-fully compliant with GOTS standards. This fabric is quilted over a generous layer of organic wool, supported by a thin, non-woven backing-added in accordance with GOTS accessory requirements-to prevent the wool from shifting or clumping and to keep natural fibers from working through the outer cotton over time. Responsibly and ethically sourced from India, this durable textile is needle-tufted by hand using organic cotton yarn rosettes. These secure the cotton ticking and internal mattress layers without chemical or water-based adhesives. Reinforced edge seams are double-stitched for added durability, and four heavy-duty upholstered handles make the mattress easy to rotate or move.

The Avocado Green Mattress features one of the most advanced, internal, pressure-point support units available anywhere, at any price. The Green Mattress has between 833 (Twin) and 1,379 (King) individually wrapped coils - arranged in seven strategic zones to support hips, back, and shoulders, plus a reinforced steel perimeter, giving the bed a consistent level of support to the edge. These premium springs float independently in a food-grade polypropylene fabric (non-woven and non-toxic) to improve airflow, support, and spinal alignment. The coils are assembled using a safe and environmentally-conscious adhesive composed of tested components (Waxes: CAS 8002-74-2, Resin: CAS 8050-26-8, Antioxidant: CAS 6683-19-8, EVA Polymer: CAS 24937-78-8). There are three wire gauges used: 16 gauge (narrow diameter) perimeter coils in the reinforced sides and the header/footer zones; 15 gauge coils through the center one-third section; and 14 gauge (larger diameter) coils on both sides of the center section (the same in the shoulder and hip areas, since our mattress is designed to be rotated regularly). Made from heat-treated and stress-relieved wire, these up-cycled steel coils (manufactured by Avocado) enable our mattress to deliver firm edge support for the life of the mattress and help those needing back pain and pressure-point relief. Furthermore, the finished innerspring unit meets OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, EWG Verified®, MADE SAFE®, GREENGUARD Gold, and Formaldehyde-Free Claim Verification standards, ensuring that it adheres to the highest safety and environmental benchmarks.

At Avocado, we're committed to ensuring our products are free from harmful levels of PFAS. Our mattresses have been rigorously tested using advanced techniques such as Liquid Chromatographic/Tandem Mass Spectrometer (LC/MS/MS) analysis and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis for 241 PFAS substances. This testing method is superior to generic organic fluorine screening tests, which can often be inaccurate and fail to detect specific PFAS compounds.
